Feast of the Congratulation of the Virgin Mary (second day of the Feast of the Nativity)
Gospel (Luke 1:46-55): And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour, for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. And his mercy is on those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm, he has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts, he has put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted those of low degree; he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent empty away. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity for ever.”
We magnify you and congratulate you, our Mother, the Virgin Mary, Mother of God. We congratulate you on the birth of your Son, God incarnate, King of kings and Lord of lords. You are blessed among women, you who shared in the incarnation of the Word by your “yes”. We congratulate you on the birth of your great Son, we magnify you and thank you without end for giving us your Son to save us from our sins.
Grant us, Mary, to value the honour of belonging to you, so that, following your example, we may accept God’s will in our lives and live in peace and love with everyone we meet on the road to meeting your Son Jesus.
