Pope John Paul II was canonized by Pope Francis on 27 April 2014, Divine Mercy Sunday. We celebrate his feast every year on 22 October.
You can pray this novena at any time of the year, or from 14 to 22 October to prepare for the feast of Saint John Paul II.
Each day, after the prayer below, pray one Our Father and one Hail Mary, then say three times:
Saint John Paul II, pray for us!
It is also recommended to go to confession during the novena and to take part in the Eucharist.
Prayer
O Holy Trinity,
we thank You for having given Your Church Pope John Paul II, and for having made the tenderness of Your fatherhood, the glory of the Cross of Christ and the splendour of the Spirit of love shine through him.
Trusting completely in Your infinite mercy and in the motherly intercession of Mary, he gave us a living image of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and showed us that holiness is the high measure of ordinary Christian life and the only way to reach eternal communion with You.
Through the intercession of Saint John Paul II, we ask You for this grace: (state your personal intention here).
We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, who reigns with You, Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever.
Amen.
