Holy Trinity Sunday

Holy Trinity Sunday

My brothers and sisters in Christ, the following text is often quoted as a basis for our faith in the Holy Trinity:
“For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one.
And there are three that bear witness on earth: the Spirit, the water and the blood, and these three agree” (First Letter of Saint John, chapter 5, verses 7-8).

(Note: the phrase about “the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit” in verse 7 is a later addition, absent from the oldest Greek manuscripts; modern Bibles, including official Catholic translations, no longer include it. To ground faith in the Trinity, Christ’s command is usually cited instead: “Baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” – Matthew 28:19.)

In the Roman rite, the first Sunday after Pentecost is Holy Trinity Sunday.

Let us pray:

We thank you, Father, for calling us to be your children through love and forgiveness;
we thank you, Son, for making us your brothers and sisters through redemption and salvation;
we thank you, Holy Spirit, for accompanying us with inspiration and guidance.
We praise you, Most Holy Trinity, for all you have done and do for us. Glory to you for ever and ever. Amen.
Have a blessed Sunday!
