The meaning of Christmas decorations
1 – The tree: it symbolizes Jesus, the giver of life, which is why it should be green.
2 – The bell: a bell was used to find the lost sheep;
may we find the road that leads to Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
3 – The star: it symbolizes the heavenly promise; it was the star that guided the Magi to the cave of Bethlehem.
4 – The candy cane: it symbolizes the shepherd’s crook, used to bring back stray sheep; it also represents the letter
“J”, the first letter of “Jesus”, when turned upside down.
5 – The crib: it symbolizes self-emptying and humility. God humbled himself and was born in a cave, taking our human nature to save us from our sins.
Come, Jesus, dwell in our hearts; adorn them with Christian virtues, and be yourself the ornament of our lives and our feasts. Amen.
