Why Are We Embarrassed to Confess but Not Embarrassed to Sin?

Why are we embarrassed to confess but not embarrassed to sin?

Some say that confessing to a priest is a little embarrassing!
And is committing sin not embarrassing? Why are we embarrassed to confess before the priest, yet not embarrassed to sin before God, who always sees us?

This is the season of repentance, of returning to God with our hearts, our thoughts and our deeds. Why should we harden our hearts? Are we not God’s children, and does he not love us?
So what are we waiting for? Come, let us return to the Father’s house. He is waiting for us and opens his arms to embrace us and overlook our sins, as he did for the prodigal son. Let us go with confidence and without hesitation to his house, into his arms: he rejoices in us and we rejoice in him.

“Who can forgive sins but God alone?” (Mark 2:7)
“I will confess my transgressions to the Lord” (Psalm 32:5)
And Saint John Chrysostom said:
“Yes, Christ did not only forgive sins himself: he gave priests a power he gave neither to the angels nor to the archangels… God confirms on high what the priests do here on earth.”

Thank you, heavenly Father, for the priests you have given us. Bless them and keep them forever.
