July Begins: The Month of Saint Charbel

As July begins, the month of Saint Charbel,
the saint whose fame has reached the ends of the earth and whose miracles have touched huge numbers of people around the world,
we invite you, brothers and sisters, to meditate on these wonderful words of this great saint, hoping that we can follow his example and put these sayings into practice in our daily lives:
“The first essential weapon against the devil is truthfulness. Every true word you speak is an arrow you shoot into the heart of the evil one,
and every honest confession of sin is a spear that pierces his heart.”
“The second essential weapon is humility.
Truthfulness and humility together mean confession. Confess your sins, and you will kill the evil within you.”
“The devil’s whole concern is to distract you from God. Be careful!
He tries to distract you from God even through the things of God: he distracts you from the meaning of the words you pray through the words themselves,
he distracts you from praising the Lord through the melody of the hymn you praise him with,
he distracts you from God through the very prayer you are praying to him.”
“Remember well that you cannot stand up to the devil if you cannot kneel before God.
The devil does not come in through the windows and skylights you keep watch over and have shut tight.
The devil comes in through the door you have opened to welcome him.”
