The Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross

The Seven Last Words of Jesus on the Cross

Is there any love greater than the love with which Christ loved us?
Come, let us meditate today on his last words on the cross, and we will know how much he loved us and how great his love was: he loved us to the point of the cross and death.

The First Word
“Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).

The Second Word
“Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43).

The Third Word
He said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son!” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” (John 19:26-27).

The Fourth Word
“My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46).

The Fifth Word
“I thirst” (John 19:28).

The Sixth Word
“It is finished” (John 19:30).

The Seventh Word
“Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” (Luke 23:46).

Has anyone but Christ loved us to the point of crucifixion and death?

He forgave those who crucified and persecuted him at the height of his pain and suffering… He asked for water, and they gave him vinegar.

His loud cry at the hour of death shows that he had another strength, above all human strength!
It is proof of his divinity, and the best proof of his victory too,
for by his death he trampled down death and conquered it. That cry shook the devil and defeated him.
The death of the Lord Christ was a victory for the Redeemer, who was able to save the whole world and crush the serpent’s head. Amen.
