A Prayer to Say Every Day During Great Lent
“My Lord and my God, Lover of mankind, bless my fast so that it may be acceptable to You.
Accept my days of repentance and create in me a clean heart where Your Holy Trinity may dwell.
Turn to me and have mercy on me, for in You I have put my trust.
Increase my knowledge of You and of what pleases You, and let Your will be my portion.
Purify my soul and sanctify my body.
Relieve my anguish and lift me out of my distress.
Grant me to meet You in the sacrament of forgiveness
and fill my hours with praise for Your mercy and witness to the joy of Your Gospel.
You who have compassion on my weakness and forgive my faults without reproach and without end,
make me worthy to be sanctified by the pure Body of Your Son and cleansed by His forgiving Blood,
so that I may share in the wedding feast of His love with the Virgin Mary,
and be healed of the leprosy of my sin, of the haemorrhage of my desires,
of my estrangement from my Church, of the paralysis of my selfishness and of the blindness of my pride.
Forgive me, Lord… Like the thief on the cross, I call to You:
give me my share of the Cross and remember me in Your Kingdom,
You who are living and immortal. To You be praise for ever.” Amen.
