Prayer of Sister Faustina
for practising works of mercy in our daily lives
“O Most Holy Trinity, I want to worship the mercy of Your Heart with every breath of my being, every beat of my heart, every pulse of my veins.
Lord, I want to be completely transformed into an instrument of Your mercy and so become a living reflection of You. May Your boundless mercy pour out through my heart and soul upon the souls around me.
Help me, O Lord, that my eyes may be merciful, so that I may never be suspicious of anyone or judge anyone by outward appearances, but see what is beautiful in every soul and come to its help.
Help me, O Lord, that my ears may be merciful, so that I may pay attention to my neighbour’s needs and not be indifferent to their pains and complaints.
Help me, O Lord, that my tongue may be merciful, so that I may never speak badly of anyone, but have a word of comfort and forgiveness for all.
Help me, O Lord, that my hands may be merciful and filled with good deeds, so that I may do only good to my neighbour and take upon myself the more difficult and toilsome tasks.
Help me, O Lord, that my feet may be merciful, so that I may hurry to serve my neighbour, overcoming my own fatigue. My true rest is in serving my neighbour.
Help me, O Lord, that my heart may be merciful, so that I may feel my neighbour’s sufferings.
I will refuse my heart to no one. I will be kind even to those I know will take advantage of my kindness, and I myself will take refuge in the merciful Heart of Jesus and forget my own sufferings.
O my God, may Your mercy rest in me.”
“You have commanded me, Lord, to practise the three degrees of mercy:
the first: the act of love and mercy, whatever it may be;
the second: the word of comfort; if I cannot help by deed, I will at least help with a word of comfort;
the third: prayer; if I cannot show mercy by deed or word, I can always offer it through prayer. Here I send my prayer to where I cannot be in body.
O Jesus, make me like You, for You can do all things.”
