Novena to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul for Their Feast
(to be repeated each day)
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.
O holy Apostles Peter and Paul, great stars of the Church,
I choose you as my patrons.
I rejoice with you, Saint Peter, prince of the Apostles, for you are the rock upon which God built His Church; and I rejoice with you also,
Saint Paul, for God made you a chosen vessel and a teacher of truth to the world.
Intercede for me always with God, and ask Him to grant me a living faith, a firm hope,
a perfect love, graceful patience in adversity and deep humility in prosperity,
and great zeal in fulfilling my duties, so that, having overcome the temptations of the world, the devil and the flesh, I may be worthy to stand before the Chief Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
O holy Apostles Peter and Paul,
I choose you this day and for ever as my special advocates,
and, lowly as I am, I dare to rejoice with you both:
with you, Saint Peter, prince of the Apostles, because you are the rock on which God founded His Church;
and with you, Saint Paul, because God chose you as a chosen vessel and preacher of truth throughout the world.
I ask you to obtain for me a living faith, a firm hope, a perfect love, complete detachment from myself, contempt for the world, patience in trials,
humility in joys, attentiveness in prayer, uprightness in my actions,
diligence in the duties of my state in life, constancy in my resolutions, surrender to God’s will and perseverance in grace until death, so that, having overcome through your intercession and your glorious merits the temptations of the world, the devil and the flesh, I may be made worthy to appear before the supreme and eternal Shepherd of souls, Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns with the Father and the Holy Spirit, and to enjoy with you the sight of Him and His love for ever.
