Saint Titus
Feast: 25 August
“But as for you, teach what befits sound doctrine”
(Titus 2:1).
He was a Greek pagan who came to know Jesus and, according to tradition, was one of the seventy-two disciples.
He became a disciple of Paul and accompanied him on his missions, especially in Corinth.
He went up with him to Jerusalem and took part in the council held there around the year 50, which decided that Gentile converts were not bound by the Mosaic Law.
When Paul heard that there was conflict in the Church of Corinth, he sent Titus to set things right, and Titus did so admirably. He then accompanied Paul to the island of Crete,
where Paul made him bishop, asking him to care for the Church there and to appoint priests for the communities he founded.
Titus carried on his apostolic work on that island with zeal and energy until a good old age, and he fell asleep in the Lord in Crete at the end of the first century.
