Seven Precious Sayings

Brothers and sisters, let us meditate on these precious sayings of saints and Fathers; let us feed on them, reflect on them and keep them… And let us get ready to put them into practice, so that we may become holy like them, gladden the Lord’s heart, and praise and glorify him with the angels for ever, and he will say to us: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world” (Matthew 25:34).
Then we will rejoice in him, and he will rejoice in us.

1. Charity is the queen of the virtues. Just as pearls are held together by a thread, so charity holds the other virtues together, like the thread that gathers pearls into a single necklace. And just as the pearls fall if the thread breaks, so if charity is lacking, all the other virtues scatter.
Saint Padre Pio

2. O man, how often you say, “If only I could see his face, or touch his clothes, or even see his sandals!” But you, O man, see him and touch him, and even eat him! He gave his life for you: your wish is no longer just to see him, for Christ Jesus has become your food and nourishment.
Saint John Chrysostom

3. No one paid a billion dollars for us… what was paid for us is the blood of Christ, which is priceless.
You don’t appreciate that you were born a Christian… you don’t appreciate that you receive Communion.
You don’t appreciate enough what it means to say “Our Father who art in heaven.”
You don’t appreciate that your name was written in heaven without your paying a thing.

If you appreciated all this… you couldn’t do anything but give thanks.
If you pray well… you’ll give thanks on your own.
When you read the Gospel a lot… you’ll give thanks on your own.
When you receive Communion often… you’ll find thanksgiving pouring out by itself.
Father Daoud Lamei

4. The greatest sin in today’s world, and perhaps it has become a reality, is that people are beginning to lose the sense of sin.
Pope Pius XII

5. The Hail Mary is like a grain of wheat, and the Glory Be is an ear of wheat. The more fervent the Hail Mary, the bigger and fuller the grain of wheat.
Saint Mary of Jesus Crucified, Carmelite

6. Those who carry the yoke of our Lord Jesus Christ with pride, and do not humble themselves or submit to the one who guides them, will not be able to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Saint Arsenius

7. Just as an enemy bombards fortresses with aircraft and artillery to destroy them before launching an attack, so the devil does:
he bombards a person with bad thoughts and then launches his attack.
Saint Paisios of Mount Athos

How beautiful is the longing for holiness and for seeing your face, O God!
