The Chaplet of the Precious Blood of Jesus

The Church has dedicated the whole month of July to devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus.
Pray this chaplet with us throughout this month for your personal intentions, as a token of love and thanksgiving to our God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who offered his Passion and shed his most precious blood as a ransom for our sins and the sins of the whole world.

The Chaplet of the Precious Blood of Jesus

O God, come to my assistance.
O Lord, make haste to help me.
Glory be to the Father…
– First mystery: Our beloved Redeemer shed his precious blood for the first time on the eighth day after his birth, when he was circumcised in fulfilment of the Law of Moses.
Jesus did this to make satisfaction to divine justice for our faults, to stir up in us sorrow for our sins, and so that we might promise Christ to live from now on, by his divine grace, in purity of soul and body. Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Second mystery: Jesus shed his blood abundantly in the Garden of Olives, so that the ground was soaked with it, at the sight of the great betrayal with which mankind would repay his boundless love for them.
Alas! Let us then repent of the ingratitude with which we have repaid his many benefits, and resolve to profit from his graces and holy inspirations. Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Third mystery: Christ shed his blood in his painful scourging, so that this precious blood streamed abundantly from his sacred body and all his limbs. He offered it to his eternal Father in reparation for our impatience and our frivolity.
Why, then, do we not restrain our outbursts of anger and curb our self-love, striving from now on to hold fast to patience in trials and to humility, calmly accepting the humiliations that come to us? Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Fourth mystery: Blood flowed abundantly from the head of Jesus when he was crowned with thorns, in punishment for our pride and our evil thoughts. And we still cling to and nourish in ourselves the spirit of pride and arrogance, and let impure and shameful imaginings take root in our thoughts.
Let us therefore reflect from now on, and always keep before our eyes our true nothingness, our misery and our weakness, so as to resist sincerely and steadfastly all the wicked assaults of the devil. Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Fifth mystery: Alas! How much blood flowed from the veins of our beloved Jesus as he went up to Calvary weighed down by the cross, so that the streets of Jerusalem through which he passed were stained with this precious blood; and all this in reparation for the scandals and bad examples that lead our neighbour astray and set him on the road to perdition.
Ah! Are we not, perhaps, among those unhappy ones? Who knows how many souls have been cast into hell because of our bad example? Let us make amends for this, and strive for the salvation of souls through our counsel, our devout exhortations and our good example. Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Sixth mystery: The Saviour shed his blood most abundantly in his painful crucifixion, when it gushed like a fountain from his hands and feet, from the veins of his broken body and his torn arteries: that blood, the balm of eternal life, for the forgiveness of the crimes and iniquities of the world.
Is there still anyone who wishes to persist in sin and so crucify the only Son of God anew? Let us then weep bitterly over our faults, confess them before the minister of the sacrament, and begin from this moment a good Christian life, keeping before our eyes the immense worth of the blood that Jesus Christ shed for our eternal salvation.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Seventh mystery: Finally, Jesus shed his blood after his death, when the lance pierced his side and wounded his loving Heart. Then blood and water flowed out, to show us that he had poured out all his blood, to the last drop, for our salvation. O infinite mercy and love of our beloved Saviour, who gave himself entirely for our salvation!
And since we are unable to thank our beloved Redeemer as we ought, let us call upon all the saints and angels, and implore our immaculate Mother, the Virgin Mary, to praise and glorify your precious blood on our behalf, crying out:
Long live the blessed blood of Jesus, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen.
Our Father five times and Glory be once.
We beseech you, Lord, have mercy on your servants, whom you have redeemed with your precious blood.

Prayer

O precious Blood of eternal life, who ever plead the cause of mankind before the throne of the Almighty, the merciful and forgiving: I adore you with deep reverence, and I desire with all my strength to make reparation for the insults and outrages you receive from men, especially from those who dare to blaspheme you.
Who would not bless this blood of infinite worth, and who would not burn with love for Jesus, who shed it for us? What would have become of me had I not been redeemed by this divine blood? And what moved him to shed it to the last drop of his veins, if not his infinite love?
O holy Love, who gave us this saving balm, and you, precious balm springing from the fount of supreme love, make all hearts and tongues bless you, glorify you and give you thanks, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen.
