Holy Mary, Mother of God
At the start of the year Pope Francis gave a beautiful talk about our Mother the Virgin Mary. Here are some of the things he said:
We open this new year of 2018 in the name of the Mother of God.
Mary is not only the Mother of Jesus; she is the Mother of God.
In her heart beats the heart of the Church.
We must start again from the manger, from the Mother who holds God in her arms.
Devotion to Mary is a requirement of the Christian life.
We all need a new heart, like Mary’s heart:
a heart that knows how to treasure God’s tender love and to feel the heartbeat of everyone around us.
The Mother of God is the greatest human creature God has made.
And at the end of his homily he said:
Let us look at her and repeat this greeting together three times:
“Holy Mother of God!”
“Holy Mother of God!”
“Holy Mother of God!”
Note: It was spread on social media that Pope Francis declared 2018 the “Year of the Mother of God” in his address, but the Pope never said that.
