Novena to Saint Elijah the Living (Mar Elias)
These three prayers are said on each day of the novena:
1 – Almighty God, who raised up the prophet Elijah to guide Your people Israel and clothed him with Your divine power,
so that he fought under Your banner against wicked kings and the reckless priests of Baal, defeated them and brought Your people back to obedience to You, be pleased to clothe us with Your divine power to triumph over Your enemies and ours, that we may glorify You now and for ever. Amen.

2 – O God of Hosts, who chose from the beginning a people of Your own, watched over its destiny and crushed its enemies before it,
fed it with manna and quails and gave it drink from the springs of salvation; and when this people went astray and worshipped Baal and idols, You sent Your prophet Elijah, into whom You breathed Your Spirit, so that his heart burned with zeal for Your glory and the salvation of Your people; he warned them by word and wonders and succeeded in bringing them back to Your worship.
Be pleased to grant us, through his intercession, which is acceptable to You, the forgiveness of our sins and the healing of our illnesses, for the glory of Your name and for our happiness in time and in eternity. Amen.

3 – Holy God, Lord of hosts, who created human beings in Your image and likeness, created for them everything You saw fit for their earthly life, and above all prepared eternal happiness for them; to lead them to this noble end You chose certain persons, patriarchs and prophets, and placed Your divine power in them; foremost among these heroes is Your great prophet Saint Elijah the Living, to whom You gave the power to work miracles, and he worked them:
he raised the widow’s son from death and multiplied her oil and flour, he brought fire down from heaven three times and rain in abundance, and the people turned from their error back to the worship of their Lord. Be pleased now to pour upon us, through his intercession, showers of spiritual and bodily graces, so that we may reach eternal happiness. Amen.

Saint Elijah the Living, pray for us.
Day One
O prophet Elijah, symbol of faithfulness and devotion to God Almighty, whose every work was upheld by the hand of the Lord,
implore Him to stretch out a helping hand to us unworthy sinners, to guide our steps toward what is good, and to support us in the hour of trial,
so that we may remain faithful to Him in good times and bad, following your example. Pray with us that He may grant us, through your intercession, the graces we ask, and answer our prayer
if it is in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls.

Day Two
Glorious prophet Elijah, you prayed to the Lord seven times to send rain upon the thirsty earth,
and the Lord heard your prayer and sent abundant rain. We implore you now again to pray to the Lord to water the earth with good things and our thirsty souls with His abundant graces, so that we may be refreshed, rejoice and glorify His holy name. Grant us, O merciful Lord, through the intercession of Your noble prophet, what we ask of Your goodness,
and answer our prayer if it is in keeping with Your divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Three
O protecting prophet, Saint Elijah the Living, who obeyed the Lord’s commands with burning zeal, so that He was pleased with you and ordered the ravens to feed you during the famine,
we unworthy ones implore you to pray to the Master of creation, who governs this universe with His ever-watchful providence, to look upon us with favour, to nourish our souls and bodies with His abundant goodness, to grant us the graces we ask and answer our request
if it is in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Four
Great prophet Saint Elijah the Living, who at the Lord’s command blessed a handful of flour in a jar and a little oil in a jug at the widow’s house, so that she and her son ate the Lord’s bounty with you for many days, we implore you to pray to the compassionate Lord to provide for us in soul and body from His abundant gifts and to answer our request, if it is in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Five
O helping prophet, Saint Elijah the Living, who by the grace of the Lord was mighty in word and deed, who prayed fervently to God and raised the widow’s son from death, giving him back alive to his mother and filling her heart with joy instead of sorrow, pray to Almighty God to revive our lukewarm faith, so that we may confess, like that widow, that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is truth.
Pray to Him to answer our requests, if they are in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Six
O zealous prophet, Saint Elijah the Living, who overcame the priests of Baal by your fervent prayer, bringing down fire from heaven upon the burnt offering, which consumed the meat, the wood and the stones and licked up the water around the altar, we implore you to set our hearts on fire with divine love and burning zeal for the glory of the Lord.
Intercede for us with the Lover of mankind, that He may answer our pleas if they are in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Seven
Hail, venerable prophet Elijah, earthly angel and heavenly man! God appeared to you on Mount Horeb, not in the storm wind, nor in the terrible earthquake, nor in the consuming fire, but in a gentle breeze.
We ask you, who beheld the glory of the Lord Jesus at His divine Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, to pray to Him to enlighten our souls and hearts with the radiance of His divinity and to grant us through your intercession what we ask, if it is in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Eight
O fearless prophet, Saint Elijah the Living, who risked your life to defend the oppressed, confronted the tyrant King Ahab and his wicked wife Jezebel and rebuked them for their crimes and injustices, we pray you to ask the Lord to place in our hearts a share of your spirit, so that we may treat everyone with honesty and justice. And we ask Him, through your intercession, to answer our requests, if they are in keeping with His divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.

Day Nine
O Lord our God, who took up Your noble prophet Saint Elijah in a chariot of fire to heavenly glory, so that he became worthy to be called “the Living”, we unworthy ones ask You through his intercession to stretch out Your hand from the height of Your holy dwelling to be with us as it was with Elijah, and to lead us to the glory of the resurrection of Your beloved Son Jesus Christ, with His all-holy Mother, our Lady the Virgin Mary, in the dwelling of bliss.
And we implore You to answer our requests if they are in keeping with Your divine will and for the salvation of our souls. Amen.
