Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory
Lord Jesus, have pity on the souls held captive in Purgatory, You who, for their salvation, took on our human nature and suffered a painful death. Have mercy on their burning sighs of longing to see You. Have mercy on their tears of great sorrow, and by the power of Your Passion forgive them the sufferings that cling to them because of their sins.
Envelop them, O Lord, in the mercy of Your love that flowed from Your pure side, and we lift up to You the souls of all the departed from Adam until today, that they may enjoy the glory of Your Kingdom.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace,
through the mercy of God. Amen.
