Second apparition: Saturday 18 December 1982 [1]
11:37 p.m.
“My children,
remember God, for God is with us.
You know everything, and you know nothing.
Your knowledge is incomplete knowledge; but the day will come when you will know everything, as God knows me.
Do good to those who do evil, and treat no one badly.
I have given you more oil than you asked for [2], and I will give you something much stronger than oil.
Repent and believe, and remember me in your joys.
Proclaim my Son, Emmanuel. Whoever proclaims him is saved, and whoever does not proclaim him, his faith is in vain.
Love one another.
I do not ask for money to be given to churches, or money to be handed out to the poor: I ask for love. Those who hand out their money to the poor and to churches and have no love in them are nothing.
I will visit homes more [3], because those who go to church sometimes do not go there to pray.
I do not ask you to build me a church, but a shrine [4].
Give. Do not turn away anyone who asks for help.”
[1] The first message was given during the second apparition. During the first apparition, Myrna was overcome with fear and ran to wake her sister-in-law Hélène, screaming in fright and pointing to the terrace: “Hélène, Hélène, the Virgin!” But Hélène saw nothing. Hélène’s husband, Awad, the brother of Myrna’s husband, had to carry her in his arms down to the living room, where Father Elias Zahlaoui found her at the end of the prayer, at about a quarter to midnight, with the Orthodox priest Father Georges Abou Zakhem and some of her relatives beside her. They told him what had happened. He said to Myrna: “No doubt the Virgin wanted to give you a message. And when she saw you so upset, she said nothing. So prepare yourself with this prayer: ‘O Virgin, prepare me to receive you, so that I can understand what you want to tell me.'” Myrna replied: “Is that all?”
[2] These words of the Virgin were an answer to what Myrna’s father was saying during the apparition: “O Virgin, please don’t stop giving us the oil!”
[3] The Virgin’s words “I will visit homes more” seemed completely incomprehensible to us at first. But when oil began to appear on hundreds of photographs of the image of Our Lady of Soufanieh, from late October 1983 and throughout November of that year, in the Virgin’s house in Soufanieh and elsewhere, and people began turning these photos into icons, setting them up in their homes and praying before them, the words became perfectly clear.
[4] In fact, the Virgin herself explained to us on another occasion what was asked: “Remove a stone from the front of the outer door and prepare it so that the icon can be placed there, with words of thanksgiving to her Son Jesus written on it.” We carried this out at the beginning of May 1983.
