(This devotion comes from a private revelation that the Church has not officially recognized; it is shared here as a meditation on Christ’s Passion.)
According to this account, our Lord Jesus Christ spoke about the night before his Passion to a devout sister, Mary Magdalene, a Poor Clare who lived in Rome in great holiness. Jesus answered the desire of this sister, who was longing and pleading to know his secret sufferings. He appeared to her and revealed to her the unknown sufferings he endured on the night before his Passion.
Christ said to her: “The Jews regarded me as the most dangerous man of their time, and they treated me accordingly.”
1. They tied my feet with a rope and dragged me down a flight of stairs into a filthy, foul-smelling cellar.
2. They stripped me and pierced my body with iron spikes.
3. They tied a rope around my body and dragged me back and forth.
4. They hung me on a post and let me fall from it to the ground. This pain made me weep tears of blood.
5. They fastened me to a piece of wood and tortured me with all kinds of weapons, piercing my body; they threw stones at me and burned me with embers and torches.
6. They pierced me with awls and spears and tore the flesh and veins from my body.
7. They tied me to a pillar and placed my feet on a red-hot iron plate.
8. They crowned me with a crown of iron and blindfolded me with filthy rags.
9. They sat me on a chair covered with sharp nails, which opened deep wounds in my body.
10. They poured tar and molten tin into my wounds and threw me to the ground.
11. To increase my torment and humiliation, they drove needles and nails into the holes in my plucked beard.
12. They threw me onto a cross and tied me to it so tightly and cruelly that I could hardly breathe.
13. They trampled on my head. One of them, putting his foot on my chest, drove a thorn from my crown into my tongue.
14. They poured the vilest filth into my mouth.
15. They poured waves of shameful insults on me, tied my hands behind my back and led me out of the prison, beating me with rods.
And Jesus went on: “My dear daughter, I ask you to make my fifteen secret sufferings and pains known to many souls, so that they may meditate on them and honour them. On the last day of judgment I will give eternal happiness to those who, with love and meditation, offer me one of my sufferings each day and devoutly say the following prayer:”
My Lord and my God, it is my firm will to honour you, praise you and adore you for your fifteen secret sufferings and for your Blood that was shed, as many times as there are grains of sand on the seashores, specks of dust in the fields, blades of grass on all the earth and leaves on the branches; as many times as there are flowers in the fields, stars in the heavens, angels in heaven and creatures on earth. Many thousands of times as many, may you be adored, praised and glorified, my Lord Jesus Christ. Make me, with all people, praise, love and glorify your Sacred Heart, your precious Blood, the holy divine Sacrifice, the Most Blessed Sacrament, the most holy Virgin Mary, the nine choirs of angels and the multitude of the saints, from now and for ever.
I greatly desire, my beloved Jesus, to thank you, serve you and please you, and to make reparation for all the offences done to you, and to become yours in body and soul. I truly want to repent of my sins, and I ask you, my God, for forgiveness and mercy; I also long to offer your infinite merits to the eternal Father in atonement for my sins and the punishments I deserve. I firmly resolve to change my life, and I ask you to make my last hour happy and peaceful. I also pray for the salvation of the suffering souls in purgatory. I desire to renew this act of love and reparation faithfully every hour of the day and night until the last breath of my life. I ask you, good and most lovable Jesus, to confirm in heaven my sincere hope, and do not allow the evil spirit to destroy it. Amen.
