The Rosary (Chaplet) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Rosary (Chaplet) of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Chaplet

This chaplet has five decades, in honour of the five wounds of Jesus.

Instead of the Our Father, say: Eternal Father, I offer to your divine Majesty the most precious Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ,

in atonement for our sins and for the needs of holy Church.

Instead of the Hail Mary, say ten times:

Jesus, meek and humble of heart, make our hearts like unto yours.

Instead of the Glory Be, say: Sweet Heart of Mary, be my salvation.

The Litany

Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

P: Jesus, meek and humble of heart, R: make our hearts like unto yours.

P: Lord Jesus Christ, who in a new outpouring of love were pleased to pour out on your Church the riches of your divine Heart, give us the strength to return the love of this Sacred Heart and, by the honour due to it, to make reparation for the offences done by those who are ungrateful to this sorrowful Heart.

Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of your beloved Son and upon the praise and satisfaction he offered you on behalf of sinners; and grant pardon to those who seek your mercy, in the name of the same Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, for ever and ever. Amen.

The priest incenses the image, and the people sing in two choirs (an Arabic hymn, in translation):

O Redeemer, you came down from heaven out of love for humankind;
for us you took a body and endured the Passion.
Happy is the one whose heart is united to your compassionate Heart:
take away the rust from the hearts of those who love you, O gentle and kind Lord.
* * *

Behold, your wounded Heart calls out to all peoples:
“Come to me; I am the one who gives rest from every trouble.”

* * *

Your love, O zealous Lord, compelled you to let yourself be seen at every moment,

hidden under the forms of bread and wine in the Eucharist.

* * *

O food of souls, life of humankind and pledge of eternal bliss,

to you be our thanks all our days, and our lasting love.

(To the melody of “The angel Gabriel hastened”)

O Heart, the centre of all joys,

who take away your servants’ sorrows,

you are the rich one who bestows graces

on humankind from the treasures of your love.

Set all hearts on fire

with your longed-for love,

forgive us our sins,

and take our faults far from us.

O Heart wounded by the lance,

set us ablaze with the fire of love.

Prayer

P: Lord Jesus Christ, whose Heart was pierced by a lance out of love for us and whose precious Blood was shed for our redemption: by your Heart wounded with love, have pity on our poor souls and make us know how precious they are, so that we may love you and make amends through repentance for our offences against you and for the insults of those who are ungrateful for your kindness. Sanctify our souls, O our God, through the wound of your Sacred Heart, and set our hearts on fire with your love. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we are your creatures and the work of your hands. Send us help from on high for the renewal of faith among the nations, for the triumph of our Mother, your holy Church, and for the protection of the Roman Pontiff, her infallible head. And make there be one flock and one shepherd. Amen.

P: Look, O Lord, on the fields covered with harvest, R: and send labourers into your harvest.

P: Lord, hear our prayer, R: and let our cry come unto you.

P: May the souls of the faithful departed rest R: through the mercy of God in peace. Amen.

P: Let us pray one Our Father and one Hail Mary, asking the Sacred Heart of Jesus for a burning love for him, the exaltation of his Church, and the conversion of sinners and unbelievers.

O Heart of my Lord (to the melody of “O Mother of God”):
O Heart of my Lord, my hope,
you are my help and my joy;
enrich us with your bounty, O Generous One.
O Lord of my heart, my comfort,
the aim of my longing and my desire,
that we may reach the home of bliss.

We sing:
O throne of the Origin of the universe,
set our hearts on fire with your love;
O temple of the most high Godhead,
grant that we may hide in you.
O Heart in love with us,
who would not leave us orphans,
we ask your Heart, Lord of all,
that we may walk in the paths of righteousness.
O Heart in love with humankind,
that we may serve you through all ages, make us your finest temple;
there we find the hidden manna. You bore the Passion for us
and hid yourself for ever in the Eucharist, to bring us happiness,
so that we may win glory on the day of return.
