1. The Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, one God. Amen.
2. Prayer to the Holy Spirit: Come, Holy Spirit, and send from heaven the ray of your light. Come, Father of the poor; come, giver of gifts; come, sweet light of hearts. O sweet rest, in labour you are rest, in heat refreshment, in weeping comfort. O most blessed light, fill the inmost hearts of your faithful, for without your power there is nothing in man, nothing that is pure. Cleanse what is defiled, water what is dry, heal what is wounded, bend what is rigid, warm what is cold, guide what has gone astray. Give your faithful, who trust in you, the seven gifts. Grant them the reward of virtue, grant them the goal of salvation, give them eternal joy. Amen.
3. Act of Contrition: O my Lord and my God, I am sorry with all my heart for all my sins, because by sin I have lost my soul and eternal blessings and deserved the pains of hell. And above all I am sorry because I have offended and insulted you, my Lord and my God, who are worthy of all honour and love. For this reason I hate sin above every evil. With your grace I would rather die than offend you again. I resolve to flee every occasion of sin and to make amends, as far as I can, for the sins I have committed. Amen.
4. The Offering: O most merciful Virgin, my Lady, we offer this Rosary according to the intention of all your devout servants who have pleased you by this holy devotion. We ask you, kind Lady, to receive us into their company and to accept this devotion from us through the merits of their virtues. Amen.
5. The Creed: We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, born of the Father before all ages, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father. He will come again in great glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets and the apostles. And in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and we look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
6. On the large bead, the “Our Father”: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses and our sins, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
7. On the first of the three small beads: O God, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, exalt your Church and keep the See of Peter and all the ranks of the Church in true devotion. Amen.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, our Lord Jesus Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
8. On the second bead: O God, grant peace and harmony among rulers and leaders, and uphold them in what is right against their enemies. Amen.
Hail Mary…
9. On the third bead: O God, bring back to the unity of the Church those of us who have gone astray, and enlighten the minds of unbelievers with the light of the Gospel. Amen.
Hail Mary…
10. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Then the mysteries of the Rosary are prayed: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful or Glorious.
For each of the five mysteries we pray the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
At the end of each mystery, after the “Glory be”, we may add the prayer the Virgin taught the three children at Fatima:
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
The Luminous Mysteries
[For Thursday]
Offering: Holy Virgin, Queen of the Holy Rosary, we pray and meditate on the five Mysteries of Light that shine in the public life of your Son and radiate upon you and upon us. We offer them for our brothers and sisters who are still in the darkness of being far from your Son, begging him through your intercession to open their eyes and light up their paths, so that they may discover in him the Light who came into the world to save them. Amen.
The First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism
Fruit of this mystery: Being children of the Father
I offer you, Blessed Virgin, the great light that was poured out on you when Jesus was baptized by John in the River Jordan.
Meditation: Jesus bows before John in the River Jordan to be baptized. The heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends on him like a dove, and the voice of the Father proclaims his only Son to the world: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” He sends him to fulfil his love and his covenant with those he loves. Ask for us, our Mother, the grace to understand God’s plan in our lives and to fulfil his will in us, so that we may hear his voice saying to each of us: “This is my beloved child…” Amen.
We pray: the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
The Second Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana
Fruit of this mystery: Renewal in the Holy Spirit
I offer you, Blessed Virgin, the great light that was poured out on you when your Son Jesus revealed his glory at the wedding at Cana in Galilee and, at your request, turned water into wine.
Meditation: The time had come for your Son to reveal his glory before everyone. Your presence at the wedding was no accident, for you were always close to him, right up to the cross. You had understood everything from the moment of the Annunciation. Jesus granted your request to turn water into wine, even though “his hour had not yet come”, out of reverence for you, Mother of the King, and deep respect for your wish. Just as you hurried to ask for a miracle when the wine ran out, hurry, our Mother, to meet our spiritual and material needs when we ask you with faith and trust. He will give us more and more through your intercession, for this wine he would later change into the blood he pours out every day for our salvation, eternal food for our souls. Amen.
We pray: the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
The Third Luminous Mystery: The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God
Fruit of this mystery: Longing for the Kingdom
I offer you, Blessed Virgin, the great light that was poured out on you when Jesus proclaimed the coming of the Kingdom of God and called everyone to repentance.
Meditation: This is the mission for which Jesus came: to proclaim the coming of the Kingdom and to call everyone to sincere repentance and true reconciliation with the Lord: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the gospel.” The mystery of God’s love for the world can only be grasped when we enter its depths through the mystery of redemption and the cross. There his love is revealed, and the time of repentance and reconciliation is fulfilled. So we must answer his repeated calls to us and understand them as Mary understood them from the Annunciation, when, guided by them, she rose to the highest rank in being chosen Mother of the Lord. O our Mother, help us to open our eyes to the true light, so that we may be reconciled with God through our brothers and sisters. Only in this way do we answer his call in Jesus your Son. Amen.
We pray: the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
The Fourth Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration
Fruit of this mystery: Following Jesus’ teaching
I offer you, Blessed Virgin, the great light that was poured out on you when the image of the Father shone on the face of Jesus your Son in his Transfiguration on the mountain.
Meditation: Once again Jesus reveals his glory to his disciples; their eyes are opened and they grasp the mystery of his relationship with his Father. “The glory of the Godhead shone on his face.” On the mountain, “as he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his raiment became dazzling white, and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!” We ask you, Lord, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of purity, to make our hearts shine with purity and our consciences with clarity, and may the light of your Transfiguration pierce our eyes, so that we are no longer blind to the mystery of your great love and your eternal longing for us; and may we listen to your voice and reflect your light to others. So may we all climb the mountain of holiness and be transfigured in love, purity and peace. Amen.
We pray: the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
The Fifth Luminous Mystery: The Institution of the Eucharist
Fruit of this mystery: Sharing in the divine sacrifice
I offer you, Blessed Virgin, the great light that was poured out on you when your Son Jesus gave himself to us as food at the Last Supper.
Meditation: This is the utmost love with which God has loved us. “Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” He even gave us his Body and Blood as eternal food under the forms of bread and wine, “giving to the end the testimony of his unfailing love for humanity”. We ask you, Holy Virgin, to remind us whenever we approach the Sacrament of the Eucharist that we are receiving Jesus, love and perfect self-giving, so that we may be ready to receive this divine gift with sincere repentance, a pure heart and a fitting appearance, and that this Eucharist may be food that gives life to our souls and purifies our bodies for eternal life. Amen.
We pray: the “Our Father” once, the “Hail Mary” ten times and the “Glory be” once.
“O my beloved Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fire of hell and of purgatory, and lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”
